Evidence Based Policy

In densely populated slums, problematic market WASH infrastructure, MnU holds its existing successful initiatives in Mombasa and Nairobi as the proof-of-concept to drive policy direction towards supporting and enabling this kind of initiatives at national and county levels.

For ASAL areas and rural livelihoods, the success and lessons from the 1996-2003 in ASAL regions serves to demonstrate how building capacity of Community-Based Organisations to promote sustainable approaches and inform policy and practice for both national institutions and County Governments.

MnU engages with public institutions, especially the Ministry responsible for water and its specialized agencies (WSTF, WRMA, WASREB) to inform policy and program development, using its growing knowledge base on issues, challenges and opportunities from the action on the ground to catalyze supportive public policy, program and budget decisions.

MnU provides strategic water governance support to select counties to advance socially equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically efficient management of water resources and water and sanitation services. The ultimate aim is to improve lives and livelihoods and reduce poverty, inequalities and exclusion and to promote meaningful expression of voice by all.

We work on knowledge and capacity development related to multiple thematic areas, including integrated water resources management, trans-boundary waters, gender equality, water integrity and climate change adaptation and water supply and sanitation.
