Recognizing benefits of Public Private Partnership

The draft National Water Bill 2014 took center stage during the courtesy call made to the CEC for Water Mombasa County Hon. Fatma Awale, by Head of International Department, Mr. Mads Jorgensen and Maji na Ufanisi team. During the discussions it emerged that, the delay to the passing of the National Draft Water Bill 2014 into law has led to the Mombasa County Government deciding to go ahead and draft the Mombasa County Water Bill to help sort out the myriads of challenges the County government has been facing in regards to water and sanitation.

During the talks both parties emphasized the value of citizen participation in the drafting of the County Bill. Hon. Fatma  Awale thanked MnU for playing a key role in the participatory process through mobilization training and facilitation of citizenry working groups that contributed to the entire process of ensuring appropriate clauses are put in place in the Water Bill that safeguarded the interest of the communities in the county.

The courtesy call was one of the activities that Maji na Ufanisi had put in place as it played host to Mr. Mads who is on an official visit to assess  the progress of the joint partnership programme between the two organizations (Maji na Ufanisi and DPA).

The partnership is rooted in the promotion of good governance (non-discrimination, transparency, accountability and participation), WASH rights and advocacy for marginalized citizens of Kenya (in particular women, children and other vulnerable groups) under the devolved governance system in Kenya.
