This study was undertaken by Africa Data and Information Network on behalf of Maji na Ufanisi during the month of April 2015. The main aim of the research was to assess the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) situation in Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties respectively.

The purpose of this survey was to undertake an impact assessment of the WASH in schools’ component of the project “Strengthening citizen’s influence on WASH in the newly devolved governance system in Mombasa and Taita Taveta counties in Kenya”, funded by the Danish Peoples Aid through Maji na Ufanisi. The WASH in schools’ component aims at improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities and promote lifelong health for children in schools.

The overall objective of the study was "to contribute to the body of knowledge on climate change in Nairobi’s informal settlements and opportunities, provide knowledge on climate change adaptation strategies that have worked elsewhere and create a wareness that informs policy".
